Lisa and Mark’s Wedding at Upwaltham Barns, Sussex

A couple of weeks ago we were photographing another amazing wedding at Upwaltham Barns! it’s one of our favourite venues, and when you see the photos we’re pretty sure you’ll see why. It’s the perfect place for a wedding, beautiful surroundings full of life and nature, light airy rooms and a real homely feel too- it’s just gorgeous. We were photographing for a lovely couple named Mark and Lisa.

We started by having our usual mooch a couple of hours before even the bride and groom arrived to get ready! We like to do this so we can capture some nice scenery shots and usually so that we can get to know the venue and find some good spots for shoot, though we do know Upwaltham quite well by now. We then went to see Lisa getting ready and to get some reportage style shots of her in the bridal cottage (and also some awesome fashion style ones of her). There was a lot of excitement (and champagne!) in the room, and a really warm, relaxed vibe. The girls had their hair and make-up done and then the bridesmaids slipped into their gorgeous dresses, which were long lilac gowns with a hint of vintage flair about them. They looked so glamourous! Then it was on with Lisa’s dress, which was a beautiful white gown with sequin embellishment, and a low cowl-style back- really unusual and so elegant. Her shoes matched perfectly too, also with similar sequin detailing. She was picture perfect.

Meanwhile, Tim was photographing the boys preparing little details such as the sign pointing guests into the venue for the wedding, and then he went onto doing some shots of them getting ready. Mark was in the cottage at one point and was just below Lisa! She didn’t see him (of course- bad luck!) but you could tell her anticipation at him being so close by. Lisa’s Mum then came by to see her in her splendour, and she gave her a family ring as her ‘something old/borrowed’. It was a lovely moment to watch.

Next was the ceremony in the beautiful barn. We love photographing in here, there are just floods of light and gorgeous features, such as the beams and candles set back into the exposed brick walls. The ceremony was so heartfelt and you could see the love between Lisa & Mark so vividly. You could really tell that they were not just partners, but best friends too- we noticed that they have little cheeky quirks with each other, such as Mark pretending to punch Lisa and her sticking her tongue out at him at certain moments. They immerse themselves in each others company and are in their own little world, really nice to see!

It was then time for the guests and bide and groom to have some drinks at the drinks reception. It was a gorgeous day and the sun certainly had his hat on, so everyone gathered outside. We took this opportunity to get some quirky ‘group shots’ of the bridesmaids and the groomsmen with the bride and groom. They got really stuck in to this and had a good laugh. We also grabbed Mark & Lisa for some romantic style couple’s portraits in the grounds of Upwaltham. They were fantastic and created some fab images which really reflect their relationship we feel. We then photographed them taking the Austin Healy for a spin- Tim was hanging out the boot of a car in front to capture them on the go… that’s dedication for you!

When we got back, it was time for the wedding breakfast in the barn and the speeches. The decor in the barn was really rustic and so pretty. There was also a definite underlying Superhero theme to the wedding, with the model of the groom on the cake in a Superman shirt, and also some comic style ‘Mr & Mrs’ lettering in front of the cake. We also themed our Photo Booth with some super hero get-up for the couple. As it was a beautiful summers day, we did the Photo Booth outside! It was glorious out there, and there was a very appropriate little ice cream cart for the guests, aswell as afternoon tea and biscuits after the meal. The guests at Lisa & Mark’s wedding certainly weren’t shy when it came to getting involved in the Photo Booth. They produced some hilariously charming photos for the newlyweds to laugh at and look back on and were throwing some rather creative shapes at times!

We had a really great time in the Sun with Mark & Lisa and are really happy to have shared their day with them.

We wish them all the best for the future and a ma-hoosive CONGRATS to them both.
