Sara and Chris’ 1940s Film Noir inspired wedding was one we had been looking forward to for a long time and we we super excited that the location was Yorkshire Sculpture Park! What an awesome place to get married. We could tell that we had an artistic connection with Sara and Chris right from our first meeting- Chris is really into photography, particularly film photography so this was to be a big part of the day. We swapped ideas and inspirations over time and we are so happy with this set of images, a definite collaboration between ourselves and Chris & Sara!
We began shooting the bridal preparations at Sara’s house which was a gorgeous farm house on a real working farm, it was such a lovely setting for the morning and full of character. There was a definite vintage styling theme going on here with the bridesmaids and certainly with Sara- her dress was so unusual and beautiful (Sara you looked absolutely amazing!!). Tim popped off to the venue whilst I carried on with some more prep shots, then we all left for the wedding ceremony at Yorkshire Sculpture Park! The meal was also here too, and we got whisked round in a buggy to take some creative shots with the sculptures and in the couple’s favourite parts of the sculpture park- one of those areas being the Camellia House which is where Chris proposed. The artists whose sculptures are featured in the photographs are the fabulously talented Ursula Von Rydingsvard and Pete Liversidge.
We were shooting a mix of digital and film all day, we used loads of rolls of various awesome films on the day (including SFX infrared film and slide film from a German photography school!) and had plenty of old film cameras to keep us going including; Lomo LCA, 2 Olympus OM10s, Canon T90, Mamiya C330 and a Kodak 110- These combinations of gorgeous old cameras and amazing films give the images several different filmic effects which we love, our favourite of which is the slide film which gives off a beautiful richness and depth with a retro twist on the colours…… sorry if you got bored reading that sentence, we personally find it exhilarating stuff but then again we are massive film geeks as are Chris and Sara 🙂
So, after the ceremony, lovely grub and photo session (and a few bevvys) it was off to Bowers Mill to party 1940s style! We shot a Photo Booth with a difference at Bowers Mill. Chris has designed AND made this really cool set which was inspired by Film Noir and was a detectives office with some very apt props for the guests to get stuck in to- it was so much fun to photograph. The decor in the room was fab too (as expected!), there were vintage magazines and an old black and white film playing next to the Photo Booth.
This wedding was so amazing for all of the above, and topped off by the fact that we got to use our new Light Painting stick to get some very striking light painting shots of Sara & Chris outside of Bowers Mill. The happy couple then went off to Japan for their honeymoon (the lucky monkeys) and were so kind and brought us back some prezzies! We feel very honoured to have been part of your day you lovely pair, thank you for having us and the massive-est congratulations EVER to you both.
