We have had a busy week this week with lots going on and then our arts event coming on Sunday. It’s great to use the studio for the purpose it was intended, it’s even greater to go back to being a photographer instead of a builder!
I have had 2 days of tuition, then we spent a few days at a huge trade fair getting some lovely things to sell in the gallery (more later). This was followed by a great light painting workshop near Chester. The workshop was for a group of teenagers who are organising an arts and music festival, they absolutely loved it. It brilliant to work with creative youngsters they were so enthusiastic.
The following is a shot from the workshop, it involves long exposure, torches and flash. The results are always different and always with a massive impact .Even the rain didn’t put these youngsters off.
Danielle came into the studio for tuition, she had sent some images through for me to look at so I knew she had a good eye for a photograph so we hit the ground running really. I guess you can tell by looking at her images here that we did really well in a short amount of time. We covered composition, camera settings, exposure and studio techniques. Daniele will be back to use the studio again, well it’s only £15 per hour. Prices and more details of tuition are here
Miamoon came in as a virtual novice. She had never used an SLR camera before. So she came into the gallery and we discussed what she wanted from her photography and what her budget was and I recommended she bought a Nikon d5100, we found the best price and two days later she came back camera in hand. In a four hour one to one session we covered (and whats more she totally grasped) shutter speed, aperture,ISO,depth of field and focal length and how all these different aspects go together to make a photograph and effect exposure. We then covered composition and the rule of thirds.
In the last hour we had a very snowy walk round our lovely Uppermill village, came back to the studio and examined her images. They were I hope you agree really nice and pretty remarkable really for a first go, the second person in a week with great talent and potential, brilliant.
I think by having this tuition Miamoon may have saver herself 6 months practice at least, I can’t wait to see her images on Flickr.
