Jessica and Paul’s pre wedding shoot at Castlefield, The Northern Quarter and Old Trafford in Manchester

Urban wedding pre shoot, Manchester

Without a doubt, I love pre-wedding shoots in the city centre—and there’s nowhere better than Manchester in my opinion, I do admit I am very biased though, I love Manchester, Im there most weeks watching a gig or some kind of show. Recently I watched Benji Reid’s Find Your Eyes . It’s mixture of photography, art and dance and is the best thing I’ve seen in a long time. I do something similar with my Light Painting workshops and it really inspired me to add a little more ‘performance’ to these events.

Both Castlefield and the Northern Quarter (NQ) offer such a rich variety of urban backdrops. Every corner you turn a potential photo jumps out at you.

Jessica and Paul flew all the way from Singapore for their Manchester pre-wedding photography session, which is a long-standing tradition in many parts of Asia. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing pre-wedding shoots for international couples before (like Daniel and Yoyo’s Cambridge proposal shoot – read that post here).

Paul is originally from Bolton, and returning to Manchester for this shoot had a special significance for him. He is a big Manchester United fan. They booked me for an hours shoot but tbh I got a bit giddy as I knew we were on a roll so I did do longer.

We started our shoot at Old Trafford and hit the ground running, the rain even made an appearance, which is rare in Manchester!

Then to Castlefield, where the mix of historic canals, iron bridges, graffiti and brickwork always creates strong imagery. Then we made our way over to the Northern Quarter, known for its bold graffiti walls, quirky cafés, music, art and being Manchester’s alternative area of the city. There have been many films made here including Captain America, The Crown, Peaky Blinders, Sherlock Homes and many many more.

As a Manchester pre-wedding photographer, I’m always inspired by couples who choose this city as their backdrop. Jessica and Paul, thank you for making the journey from Singapore and for bringing such heart, history, and humour to your shoot. I’m really proud of this set of images, and I wish you the very best as you take the next steps toward your big day.
