Boho wedding photography at an intimate venue
Just over the hills of the Pennines from me lies a great venue for a wedding: The Huntsman in Holmfirth. It’s a lovely intimate venue, just right for a friends and family oriented wedding – and perfect for capturing some boho wedding photography! It’s been a while since I shot Neil and Gemma’s wedding at this venue and by chance they were guests at Suzanne and Mark’s day too, so it was lovely to see them.
We are the Mods!
As it happens I’ve known Suzanne for… well, let’s say quite a while! We were all Mods together back in the day. The thing about the Mod thing is that it gives you a love of good music. That was very much in evidence on this day – it was very musical. Suzanne’s sons and friends played during the ceremony and in the evening. There was also a great Beatles band called The Threetles – a band anyone who lives in the Saddleworth area would have seen and loved many times. It was a great ending to the night (I was still there at the end, camera in hand!). Oh, they don’t do weddings, but because Suzanne is Suzanne, they made an exception!
Bridal preparations
I love to get to a venue nice and early. Say ‘Hi’ to the bride, maybe snap a few photos of the early preparations. Then I like to have a good walk round and get some shots in my head for later in the day.
It was nice that I could just wander round, keep popping in to see Suzanne and the bridesmaids, then catch up with Mark and the guests, then nip back to Suzanne. This carried on until it was Showtime. There were no nerves evident with anyone – I guess this is just a reflection of how happy everyone here was in each other’s company!
Party time
After the lovely ceremony it was time for guests to mingle in the grounds of The Huntsman and time for Suzanne and Mark to shine in front of the camera, which they did, obviously. As always with my boho wedding photography style, there was no overtly posey stuff here, just a lovely walk round The Huntsman’s grounds and back to the party before anybody realised they had gone.
After the Wedding Breakfast and the evening guests had arrived it was time for the music and dancing, of which there were plenty. All the acts really nailed it, it was such a good evening.
Thanks for asking me to do this Mark and Suzanne – I probably shouldn’t enjoy ‘work’ as much as this but, hey, someone has to do it. You two are clearly made for each other, which was a joy to see.
