Gemma & Chris’ Manchester Indie Wedding, Manchester Town Hall & Great John St Hotel

Great John Street Manchester Wedding (1 of 29)

We began the weddings this year on a good note by having the rare privilege of photographing our family member Gemma at Manchester Town Hall followed by reception at Great John Street Hotel! Gemma and Chris are just made for each other which certainly was reflected through many aspects of the wedding, in particular the music they chose to run throughout their day. We were in the heart of Manchester, which has got to be one of our favourite locations to photograph (we’re not biased, honest) and the atmosphere and character of the city complimented Gemma & Chris’ wedding no end.

We began photographing at The Midland Hotel where Gemma was getting ready & being made even more beautiful by the amazingly talented Abi Pulleyn MUA & Hair Stylist, and where we were reunited with some of our family that we hadn’t seen for a good few years which was a really nice touch for us and something we obviously don’t get to experience much when photographing. A stand out moment for us from the day (one of many!) was one that we are very privileged to see and experience at weddings as not many people get to be there…. It’s when the Bride gets into her dress and her family see her in it for the first time. Gemma’s dress was a stunning, simple and very classic dress from the wonderful Isla Jean Bridal & was topped of by a gorgeous cascading veil with lace detailing. Gemma and Chris are a really cool couple and clearly have a creative side, the details and decor at their wedding was super cute, romantic and elegant.

After shooting the preparations at the Midland, we headed on over to the grand Manchester Town Hall for the ceremony. It’s just so magnificent to photograph in there. The ceremony was nice and relaxed (just like the pair themselves) with lots of giggles and heartfelt moments. We managed to get some sneaky couples’ shots of Gemma & Chris straight after their ceremony, where they both seemed to be glowing with excitement. Then it was off to Great John St Hotel for the reception! The Manchester weather made an appearance and the heavens had opened, however this did not spoil our fun nor stop us (& the brave bride and groom… and some guests!) walking in full force from Manchester Town Hall to the reception. On our way over there we got some Manchester City centre urban style couples shots of Gemma & Chris which are as cool and casual as they are…. None of that soppy kiss stuff! We also couldn’t resist a sneaky shot outside the Lesser Free Trade Hall, this was very apt to their wedding which featured lots of great Manchester music…. and is pretty much where the whole ‘Manchester’ scene kicked off at that monumental and influential Sex Pistols gig in 1976.

After a quick dry off when we arrived at Great John Street Hotel it was time for a quick bevvy and on to the speeches & the meal. The food was so good and was a nice wind down time before the slightly mental Photo Booth began! Our family didn’t disappoint and it seems as though Chris’ side were also not afraid of a bit of silliness either. Then onto the Cake cutting and first dance which we watched and photographed with a tear in our eyes (it doesn’t take much for us, but with it being Gemma’s wedding it was an extra special moment). After we packed our gear up we stayed around for a little and had a glass of wine (beer for Tim!) and had a nice catch up with some relatives. What a brill day!

Thanks so much to the wonderful Gemma & Chris for having us along. A MASSIVE Congratulations to you both!! Enjoy the sneak peek of your images below and see you at Christmas (probably!).
